Before we would use a 3" core bit and caulk like crazy. We get more than 80 holes in cinder block with these core bits which is very good and much better than the ones we had been using. Running dry we have never lost a segment which was a problem with others we have used. Once the segment is lost the core bit is off balance and difficult to control. Only con is that they cannot be used to cut through rebar.
